Weyant's World

The Hill has a humorous editorial cartoon about Congress' jousting with lobbying reform today that's worth a look. Think Sir George, only with collusion between the knight and the dragon.

In N.Y. Address, Treasury Secretary Targets Entitlement Programs - August 2, 2006 - The New York Sun

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson made his first public speech at New York's Columbia University yesterday. He took the occasion to carve out a new image for the Bush administration on deficit spending and entitlement reform, perhaps giving budget hawks some reason to cheer Paulson's appointment.

The Heritage Policy Blog will have more on this later, especially Paulson's acknowledgment of the time bomb of entitlements. Eliana Johnson, the reporter for the New York Sun who covered this speech, is the daughter of prominent blogger Scott Johnson from Power Line.

President Bush's new Treasury secretary told a group of business students at Columbia University that the government needs to reform entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security because they will weaken the economy in coming years if action is not taken soon.

Henry Paulson, the former chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs, used the speech, his first since being sworn in last month, to praise Mr. Bush's monetary policies. He said the policies have helped to restore confidence in all sectors of the economy.
